Yesterday, I heard a song I hadn't heard since I was younger. It's called "Semi-Charmed Kind of Life" by Third Eye Blind. Since I hadn't heard it since I was little I had never understood what the song was about. Hearing it again I decided to read the lyrics while listening to the song. Oh mylanta it was about being addicted to crystal meth. I was in utter shock that such an upbeat song could be about something so very dark. It made me wonder what other songs had secret dark meanings yet sounded so happy. Crazy stuff, huh? I don't currently have any other examples but later on I shall certainly try!

did you also know that crystal meth is awesome? and since were on the subject of hidden meanings in songs, did you know that the song "Summer of 69" by Bryan adams (i think thats him) is really abou the first time he tried 69-ing some chic...yeah mind blowing isnt it

ReplyDeleteI actually read this post earlier td and then went to listen to some music to clean to, and Third Eye Blind came up on my Pandora! Which made me think of this, so I felt that it was a sign to comment on your blog.

Dude that song was the best back in the day! I can't believe that its about meth though... I'll have to check up on that and see what this is all about! But the only other song that I can remember was Jumper from that band. Whoa I'm about to go back into the old songs I used to listen to, this band reminds me of Sugar Ray too,When It's Over, Fly, and Every morning.I'm about to go listen to these songs now!
ReplyDeleteI totally love that about music. You can talk about anything you want and create the mood behind it. I mean who really wants to listen to a depressing song. Well unless you feel depressed. But wow i like this song, i am listening to it as I write this comment. And I definitely agree i would never have thought this song was about meth. I've never done Meth but maybe its awesome and gave this band the urge to write an upbeat song about it
ReplyDeleteI know, isn't that crazy such an upbeat and peppy song is about someone being addicted to crystal meth and having sex with his girlfriend. The song came out when I was seven so I understand how I didn't know then, but hell they've played that song constantly since then, and I didn't realize what the song was about til I was like 17. They even give you key lyrics in the song that blatantly tell you like:"Chop another line", "doing crystal meth will left you up until you break",and "then I bumped up, I took the hit that I was given then I bumped again." There are so many songs with hidden meanings.I look forward to your future blogs about them!
